Cora Parquet con David Chipperfield in Basilica Palladiana a Vicenza

Freespace is the Biennale Architettura 2018 event that has become famous from Venice to Vicenza thanks to the exhibition dedicated to David Chipperfield at the Basilica Palladiana. This is how Corà celebrates art, culture, architecture and design as it comes up to its own hundredth anniversary.

A sense of humanity: the role of Architecture and Design today

Architecture and design are synonyms of attention to space and hospitality. Modulation, richness and surface materialism are the key words of Biennale Architettura 2018 in Venice. Generosity must be at the centre of the plans of today’s architects and designers.

The attention that Corà gives to art, culture, and design in particular, is fully expressed in the company’s choice to promote a great event for its city, Vicenza, the cradle par excellence of 16th century architecture thanks mainly to Andrea Palladio.

The choice to support the David Chipperfield Architects Works 2018 exhibition, which can be visited inside the suggestive Basilica Palladiana from 12 May to 2 September, started from that. Corà, as it approaches its 100th year of business, covers a corner this prestigious exhibition with its new parquet FABBRICA 4.0 vintage black, read more on the blog (https://www.coraparquet.it/blog/fabbrica-4-0-l-evoluzione-del-classico-industriale-fa-il-suo-esordio-al-fuorisalone-di-milano-).

David Chipperfield: the exhibition at the Basilica Palladiana in Vicenza

The David Chipperfield Architects Works 2018 exhibition in Vicenza was set up at the same time as the Biennale Architettura 2018 in Venice, a choice that embraces the theme of this year’s varnish: FREESPACE, the quality of space.

The curators of Biennale Architettura 2018, Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara, introduce FREESPACE as an event “… that represents the generosity and sense of humanity that architecture places at the centre of its agenda, concentrating attention on the quality of the space itself.”

For Corà, the quality of space is a synonym of wood: the material loved most by Architecture and Design because natural and comfortable, warm and aromatic. From ancient times, rooms made of wood were appreciated for their positive influence on the wellbeing of those who lived in them. Comfort and wellbeing, in fact, are the special characteristics of this timeless material.

Why was David Chipperfield chosen for the exhibition at the Basilica Palladiana?

This is what the famous architect said: “In spite of everything, Italy is still the spiritual home of architecture, and it is where you can fully understand the importance of buildings that are not just individually spectacular but a manifestation of the collective values and scenarios of daily life. The sensitivity and understanding of its people are undoubtedly the result of living in contact with the largest architectural and urbanistic patrimony that exists in the world. This tangible sense of context and history reminds us that the built world is proof of the continual development of the architectural language and essential to our understanding of the world”.

The cultural commitment of Corà Parquet, close to its hundredth anniversary

As its 100th year of business approaches, Corà believes that celebrating art, culture, architecture and Made in Italy design and wood processing is important. By presenting its new products, Corà intends confirming the role of Architecture and Design as disciplines that are useful for combining artistic research and social values.

FABBRICA 4.0 parquet, in particular, has been in use for a long time but is new from a technological and structural point of view. Designed and re-invented to be easier to use, thanks to its modularity and the multiple ways it can be laid, it is perfect for covering space in many different ways.
